INDIA: FOOD AND MATERIALS

India has been a major part of the ministry’s food and materials distribution. Visits have taken Phillip and the team to Miryalaguda, Vijayawada, Chirala and surrounding villages, with some journeys taking one to three hours each way.

FOOD FOR WIDOWS

Near Vijayawada, one outreach focused on food distribution for widows. Across the India visits, the team shared rice, food and essential supplies with families living in poverty.

RETURNING TO THE SIKH COMMUNITY

In Miryalaguda, the team returned to a Sikh community living along an impoverished alleyway. We brought blankets and other practical help, preached and prayed with residents. The community’s warm welcome remains one of Phillip’s favorite experiences in India.

CHIRALA AND CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Chirala was another location where the ministry carried out a major food distribution. The India visits also included serving food at a residential home caring for children and adults with disabilities, alongside revival and crusade services.

ODISHA: RELIEF AND CHURCH PLANTING

During the COVID period, Torch of Christ supported food relief and church planting in Odisha through a local partner. Phillip provided financial support while the work was carried out locally.

The photographs document several distributions across 2020 and 2021, including food, blankets, practical supplies and Bibles. This support also included household essentials and toys for children, reaching communities through local leadership.

PAKISTAN: FREEDOM BEYOND THE BRICK KILNS

In rural brick-kiln communities near Faisalabad, Pakistan, Torch of Christ Ministries helped five families leave bonded labor and begin rebuilding their lives. Relief continued beyond their freedom through food, bedding, cookware and essential household support.

During a two-week visit to Pakistan, Phillip arrived through Dubai and stayed with Christian hosts. Local believers helped the team reach churches and villages around Faisalabad and knew the brick-kiln communities they visited. The wider mission included church preaching and a one-day crusade attended by approximately 3,000 people.

Released families were connected with churches in local Christian villages. A couple of days after one family’s release, Phillip personally saw them attending a church service.

Practical support helped families set up their homes with pots, pans, blankets and other essentials. Assistance also included ways to earn a living, with examples such as a food stand or rickshaw work. Pakistani ministry contacts continued following up after the team’s visit.

Two original films published in 2018 document the release of the first two families and families three to five.

WATCH: FAMILIES THREE TO FIVE

In 2018, Phillip and Torch of Christ Ministries carried food and the Gospel through Mindanao, serving students, neighborhood families and people displaced by the battle for Marawi.

DAVAO: REACHING STUDENTS AND PRAYING WITH THE SICK

The trip began in Davao City. From there, the team travelled to Marilog High School of Agriculture in Datu Salumay, where food relief accompanied a Gospel gathering for students. Many young people in this rural area walk one or two hours to reach school. A contemporaneous account from local ministry partner John Allcott records more than 300 students hearing the Gospel and credits Phillip and his teammates with groceries for the students.

The ministry in Davao also extended into a hospital, where Phillip preached and prayed with patients.

CAGAYAN DE ORO: FOOD, PREACHING AND PRAYER

At a local community gathering, the team cooked and served food. Around 200 children came together, with parents and other neighbors joining them. Phillip preached to the neighborhood and prayed for people who lined up asking for prayer. Food distribution and Gospel ministry were part of the same evening.

MARAWI: FOOD RELIEF FOR DISPLACED FAMILIES

Months after the battle for Marawi, the team visited a community of displaced Muslim families living in UNICEF tents outside the city. On the drive toward Marawi City, they bought food and packaged it for distribution. When they saw the tents, they stopped and asked whether they could share the food and goods. The families warmly welcomed them, and Phillip was able to speak about Jesus.

The children’s response left a lasting impression: they told the team they loved them and ran after them down the road as they left. This remains one of the most beautiful moments of Phillip’s ministry. The original Marawi video preserves that encounter.

PHILIPPINES: FOOD RELIEF AND PRAYER

LUNA, APAYAO: FOOD RELIEF AND HOSPITAL PRAYER

JUNE 2024 · NORTHERN LUZON, PHILIPPINES

In June 2024, after ministry in Angeles City, the team made a twelve-to-thirteen-hour journey north to Luna, Apayao. Food relief, hospital prayer and public evangelism were central to this next part of the mission. The team distributed food in an Indigenous community, preached in markets and prayed with local families and children.

At the hospital, Phillip and the team entered the intensive care unit to pray with patients. Cameras were not permitted inside. In the original film, Phillip speaks immediately afterward about the ICU visit and the team’s plans to continue praying in the other wards. Local contacts later reported that several patients were discharged within days.

The visit extended into local homes, where the team prayed with people in need. They also gathered with children and village residents, praying for their protection, future and provision. The photographs below show the shared meals, community gathering and personal connections made during this June 2024 outreach.

KENYA: FOOD RELIEF AND CARE FOR COMMUNITIES

In western Kenya, Torch of Christ Ministries has carried out food distributions around Bungoma and Kisumu. The work has also reached impoverished communities in Nairobi, surrounding slums and orphanages, where food and practical materials were provided. These outreaches bring tangible care alongside the Gospel, working with local ministry contacts who know the communities being served.

Phillip visited Kenya twice, approximately in 2019 and 2021. In Nairobi, he ministered with local pastors, preached in slum communities and visited an orphanage. In Bungoma, he spent time at a large orphanage, playing football with the children and getting to know them. Church services and a multi-day crusade formed part of the wider visit.

Local contacts also carried out food distributions while Phillip was away. His orphanage visits centered on time with the children and the relationships formed there.

On the later western Kenya visit, Phillip took part in a church ribbon cutting, visited and preached at five or six churches, and distributed Bibles and other materials. Market preaching was part of both visits.

THE WORK CONTINUES

The work continues through relationships with Stanley and Patrick. Stanley has developed Torch of Christ churches and leads evangelism, including preaching in markets and other public spaces. The ministry supports this ongoing local evangelism, helping the work continue beyond Phillip’s visits.

HAITI: THE GOSPEL AND PRACTICAL CARE

In January 2024, one mission took Phillip and the team through Port-au-Prince, Gonaïves and Cap-Haïtien. They carried food and essential supplies into gang-controlled communities, cooked meals for prisoners, shared medicine and preached the Gospel. For Phillip, Haiti was one of the most challenging ministry environments he has entered.

CANAAN — FOOD, PRAYER AND THE GOSPEL

The first outreach in Port-au-Prince was in Canaan. Phillip preached to a large crowd, spent time with children and local residents, and the team distributed a substantial amount of food. On the way out, he met one of the gang leaders and prayed with him personally.

The visit came only months after deadly violence against a church-led march in the area. The team entered with a desire to share the Gospel and meet practical needs in a community living under gang control.

MONTHS BEFORE THE VISIT

On August 26, 2023, gang members opened fire on a church-led march in Canaan, killing several people. Early reports gave differing death tolls.

CITÉ SOLEIL — CHILDREN, FOOD AND PRAYER

The next day, the team entered one gang-controlled area of Cité Soleil. The reception was more guarded, but Phillip prayed over a large group of children and many people prayed for salvation. Food, materials and other goods were shared with residents.

The team promised to help with a damaged electrical pole and bring Bibles. These were commitments made during the visit.

The team later learned that a rival gang had entered the area about thirty minutes after they left and killed one of the gang leaders they had just spoken with. Phillip gives thanks to God for their safe departure.

VILLAGE DE DIEU — UNDER GANG CONTROL

At Village de Dieu, also known as Village of God, armed gang members surrounded the team and controlled their movements as they handed out cards for food distribution. The team knew they could be kidnapped or killed. Filming was heavily restricted; only a few photographs and short clips were taken at the end.

Phillip estimates that he preached to 100–200 people. About one or two dozen raised their hands in response to the invitation for salvation.

Back at the truck, beneath an awning, the team distributed food and Phillip preached a shorter message. He describes Village de Dieu as the most frightening part of the Haiti mission.

GONAÏVES — FOOD TRUCK OVERTAKEN

After the Port-au-Prince outreaches, the team flew to Cap-Haïtien and travelled by private vehicle to Gonaïves. They purchased a large quantity of food and prepared parcels for a nighttime distribution.

The team had prepared hundreds of food bags for families facing urgent need. During the outreach, the mission’s food truck was overtaken, disrupting the distribution.

Food relief and Gospel ministry continued through the trip, including the prison visits that followed.

GONAÏVES — MEALS, PRAYER AND PRISON MINISTRY

The team cooked food for prisoners in Gonaïves, and prison staff distributed the meals inside. Phillip preached the Gospel in the prison, and many people prayed for salvation. The preaching could not be filmed.

Prisoners wrote letters asking the team to pray for them. When guards explained the prison’s practical needs, the team bought diesel and returned with fuel for the generators. The visit brought together Gospel preaching, personal requests for prayer, meals and fuel to meet the prison’s needs.

CAP-HAÏTIEN — PRISON MEALS AND MEDICINE

Working with a local ministry, the team cooked meals for prisoners in Cap-Haïtien and personally handed medicine to people who needed it. Phillip preached outside the cells while prisoners listened through their windows.

Some extended their hands through the windows, but he could not see everyone in the cells or know how many had prayed for salvation. Practical care and the Gospel reached men whose needs were often hidden from view.

HAITI — THE GOSPEL IN THE STREETS

Alongside the neighborhood and prison visits, Phillip preached in a Port-au-Prince market where the team also distributed food. In Cap-Haïtien, the mission included several street-preaching stops during one day of the trip.

Open preaching and filming could draw a hostile response. Haiti was one of the most challenging places Phillip has ministered. He gives thanks to God for bringing the team through safely.

Pray for the people who responded to the Gospel, the families receiving care, the prisoners and the local workers continuing this ministry.

BRAZIL: BRINGING HOPE TO THE FAVELAS OF LONDRINA

In Londrina, in the Paraná region of southern Brazil, Torch of Christ worked with local partners to bring food and the Gospel to families facing severe economic hardship. The outreaches reached densely populated favela communities where practical help was urgently needed.

Food and material distributions took place across three favelas in Londrina, including Flores do Campo and São Jorge, and at a halfway house. Phillip made two visits to the city, with food and materials provided during both visits.

FAVELA SÃO JORGE — FOOD DISTRIBUTION

In the São Jorge favela, families received parcels of essential food. The distribution was accompanied by a community gathering and Gospel ministry, documented in the original videos below.

BRAZIL — CARING FOR PEOPLE IN RECOVERY AND PRISON

The ministry has visited people in recovery and halfway-house settings in Brazil, sharing practical care, prayer and the Gospel. The original film below documents the halfway-house visit.

The ministry provided material support during two visits to the women’s prison in Londrina. In August 2024, Phillip and Bia visited a women’s prison in Londrina. Ministry supporters helped provide 243 hygiene kits for women with limited access to essential personal-care items.

Alongside the distribution, Phillip preached and prayed with the women. Roughly 30–40 women prayed for salvation, with many weeping or kneeling in prayer. Afterwards, women asked to sing praise together.
